Does Florida have property tax breaks for seniors?
Every Florida homestead gets up to $51,411 off its assessed value for 2026. Counties and cities can add up to $50,000 more for owners 65 and older with 2026 household income of $38,686 or less, or exempt the whole home for those owners when it is worth under $250,000 and they have lived there 25 years. These extra exemptions cover only that county's or city's own taxes, not school taxes, and each local government decides whether to offer them. HJR 1-F, on the November 2026 ballot, would raise the homestead exemption on non-school taxes to up to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028 if 60% of voters approve it.
Does Florida have an estate or inheritance tax?
No. Florida does not impose an inheritance tax or gift tax, and a federal change ended its estate tax for deaths after December 31, 2004.
What the calculator leaves out
Florida property and sales taxes are not included.
Federal tax uses the 2026 brackets, the standard deduction with the extra amount at 65, and the $6,000 senior deduction. Estimates assume no other deductions, credits or local taxes except as noted.
